Important works of art require
specialized framing techniques known as "conservation" or "preservation"
framing. Conservation framing is a strict discipline involving a formally trained conservator. Essentially, nothing is allowed to be done to, added or taken away, from the piece to affect it. Preservation framing allows one to mount the piece, using the proper materials, and display it in a frame designed to protect and preserve it while being displayed in one's home or office.
